OpenSea Teases Native Token and Airdrop

Leading NFT marketplace OpenSea confirmed plans for an upcoming token called "SEA." In a mid-February update, the OpenSea team revealed that the anticipated SEA token will be made available to U.S. users, quelling fears of exclusion.

The launch will involve an airdrop reward – OpenSea had been running an XP points system to incentivize trading, but paused it after community backlash over farming and usability issues. OpenSea is now adjusting eligibility criteria (considering users' historical activity, not just recent trades) for the airdrop. The forthcoming SEA token aims to reward the marketplace's community amid rising competition in the NFT platform space.
