U.S. SEC Backs Off Crypto Enforcement, Drops Key Lawsuits
In a sharp regulatory pivot, the U.S. SEC has dismissed or halted multiple crypto lawsuits and investigations over the past two months. Notably, the SEC dropped its case against Coinbase in late February, filing a joint dismissal of the high-profile exchange enforcement action. It also ended a probe into Uniswap Labs with no charges, and scrapped investigations into other firms like Robinhood Crypto and OpenSea.
This wave of reversals follows the departure of former Chair Gary Gensler and the appointment of pro-innovation Acting Chair Mark Uyeda. The SEC has formed a Crypto Task Force to develop clearer rules, signaling a more open stance instead of "regulation-by-enforcement". Industry leaders hail the moves as a "huge win for DeFi" and a step toward productive dialogue with regulators.
